The Location - At the Beautiful Blue Danube The Hotel Residenz is situated in the heart of Passau's Old Town and directly below the cathedral on the Danube's waterfront. This makes it an ideal starting point to explore the beauty and secrets of Passau. The comfortably shady patio in front of the hotel offers a great view of the waterways leading to the Black Sea and the North Sea, and allows guests to take a look at the cruise ship before it departs. Behind the hotel you will find Höllgasse, Passau’s best-known Old Town alley with artists’ studios and galleries, small fashion and jewelry boutiques, and the well-known glass museum. Your Trip to Passau Directions for Arrival by Car From the North or West: Take Autobahn A3 (Köln-Frankfurt-Nürnberg) coming from Regensburg–Deggendorf to exit Passau-Nord. Take the Bundesstraße along the Danube (river will be on the right) to the first bridge. Cross this bridge and after crossing make an immediate left towards Altstadt/Stadtmitte. Keep driving along the Danube (river will be on the left) towards Altstadt. When the main road makes a sharp turn keep going straight, don’t follow the main road at the turn. You will keep driving just next to the Danube (houses are to the right, the river is to the left) until you get to the hotel (approx. 600 meters [2000 feet] after the last traffic light, directly at the waterfront of the Danube). From the South: Take Autobahn A 3 (coming from Vienna-Linz) coming from Linz to exit Passau-Mitte. Take the road to Passau. After 2 km (1.25 miles) turn right before entering the bridge in direction Passau/Stadtmitte. Keep driving along the Danube (river will be on the left) towards Altstadt. Please note: Tourists who are not familiar with the area and are coming from Munich should not take Autobahn Passau in Munich. This freeway (A94) ends in the middle of nowhere after 20 km (12.5 miles) and continues as highway B12, which is a very dangerous road. Please take A9 (Autobahn Nürnberg) to Autobahnkreuz [Autobahnkreuz = junction] Neufahrn to A92 (Autobahn Deggendorf) to Autobahnkreuz Deggendorf to A3 (Autobahn Passau/Linz).
