Passau - The City of Glass and Crystal
To book for stays in the period from April 4th to October 24th
Precious cut glass and sparkling crystals have delighted humanity throughout the ages. The long-standing dominance of Venice glass production was surpassed by creatively designed and artistically crafted creations of the Bohemian crystal glass manufacturers north of the Alps in the 17th century. Special cuts, fine engravings, and luminous colors are the trademark of these coveted pieces to this day. The Passau Glass Museum boasts the world’s largest collection of Bohemian glass: 30,000 pieces.
The Bohemian glass tradition also gave birth to the Swarovski family, whose Tyrol-based firm has become the world market leader in cut crystal glass. The Passau cruise ship “MS Donau” was renovated in 2007 and was furnished with millions of Swarovski crystals. This one-of-a-kind “crystal ship” boasts the world’s largest crystal chandelier on water with no less than 70,000 crystals!
